Addison Public Safety Exodus Continues;
Situation Not Covered in Mayor’s Newsletter

In Finance Director Eric Cannon’s quarterly financial report to Council Feb. 10 there was even more disconcerting news about the continuing loss of Addison fire and police personnel. During the Town’s last quarter (October – December 2014) four more full time fire personnel left the Town as did five employees in the police department.

Not only are we losing experienced personnel, but training expenses, understandably, have gone up as well. In 2012, Police spent almost $45,000 for training. This year’s budget is $78,125. Training expenses in the Fire Department went from $81,500 in 2012 to $111,100 this year.

Let’s hope it doesn’t take some catastrophe to force the Council to reconsider its flawed compensation policy. Until that time, Addison residents need to be concerned about their safety.

This is yet one more item of importance NOT covered in the mayor’s newsletter.
